RAINBOW VILLAGE(Rainbow Military Community)

Resource : Taichung Travel Net

You might have once seen a rainbow on the sky, but you might never go to a village with lots of rainbow. The rainbow in this village means colorful. Rainbow village was once a military dependents’ village in the past. Over the years many of these buildings have become abandoned, have fallen apart and have become somewhat of a slum for an aging population.

The government began an aggressive program of demolishing the villages in the early 1990s and started to replace the decaying villages with new high rise apartment buildings. Taiwanese people are well versed in exercising their rights and taking to the streets to voice their displeasure with government action often leading to mass protests and government shut downs. There was an 87 years old man using an interesting way to resist having home torn down.Mr. Huang Yong-Fu (黃永阜), also called as “Rainbow Grandfather”, used the colorful paintings to protect his home and the village. Nowadays, rainbow village has become a tourist destination. You can learn lots of Taiwanese legend stories, histories and culture in this small village. It’s quite interesting and you can always win a good mood here.

Shenji new village is an unusual military community. Rather than the usual bungalows, this village consists of almost American-style homes, most of them still in surprisingly good condition. Under the leading of a group of trendy young teams, Shenji new village has become a popular hit spot for hipsters. There are many characteristic vendors here on the weekends which make this village always crowded during Saturdays to Sundays. It is a new attraction which is worth-visiting. Of course, it is also a good place for you to take a lot of awesome photos!

NATIONAL TAICHUNG THEATER

Resource : National Taichung Theater

National Taichung Theater is not just a building that houses the opera, the entire architecture itself is an opera. National Taichung Theater is the building that is the most difficult one to construct in the world, and it is the ninth new landmark in the world designed by the Japanese architect Toyo Ito and completed by the Taiwan team. The National Taichung Theater is a new type of construction project, utilizing 3D curved surfaces and a natural flow of space. This is a place where an abstract concept has become reality.

As soon as I stepped into the building, I fell in love with this environment, not only for the design, but the unique atmosphere. There is no 90-degree wall in the building which astonished me. It seems that you can feel the emotions of others. At the same time, you can find your own space that belongs to you only in this vast world. It is somewhere solitude, but you can also make communication here. Breaking the barriers of indifference and being so naturally is the greatness of this amazing building.

GAOMEI WETLAND

It’s said that Gaomei Wetland seems like the heaven in Taichung due to its astonished view of the sea and sunset. Beautiful wetlands teeming with life made surreal by the sight of wind turbines on the horizon. Located on the south of the mouth of Dajia River, Gaomei Wetlands is a land mixed with both sand and soil textures and comes in 1,500 acres. It has complicated yet rich wetland ecology in Taiwan. Due to diverse geographical features, the species of its ecology is quite abundant. As weather changes, large flocks of migrating birds would come here for either short or long stay, serving as the best spot for bird-watching. Despite of the ecology, the windmills are its feature, too. It’s the prime spot for a bird-and-sunset-watching combo in the greater Taichung area.
