Driving on the East Rift Valley, you will see a large stream of forests passing through the sugar factory chimney. It is Danongdafu Forest Park. Taiwan is a beautiful island with the forests everywhere, but it seems that only Hualien and Taitung can you see the original beauty of Taiwan.

Located in Guangfu Township, Hualien County,  Danongdafu Forest Park is surrounded by the central and coastal mountains. On the periphery of the forest, you can see the history of writing by multiple ethnic groups. Taiwan was once beautiful as its forests, but hundreds of years of development have maded the virgin forests to exit the wilderness.

In 2008, the Forestry Bureau selected areas to develop new recreational forest parks. That way forests may serve more purposes, people will have extra options for recreation, and the economy can develop new sustainable activities. In 2009, the Bureau selected 3 places as the new recreational forest parks and one of them is Danongdafu (Masadi) in Hualien County. 

Located between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountains, the 1,250-hectare park is equivalent to 48 Daan Forest Parks. It is a veritable super-carbon aerator. There are nearly 20 species planted here, and more than one million species of trees are easy to see at low altitudes. The appeal of Masadi lies in the organic rice grown in lovely paddies in the unique Rift Valley landscape. This area is being developed as a LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) recreational area, and is accessible by the Huadong slow train. This recreational area will focus on recreation, organic production, environmental healing and sustainable cultural development in the Rift Valley.
