One-Day Gourmet Trip in Taichung

Last week I went to Taichung for a one-day trip. I have set a goal for myself that this time I wanted to try some local dishes. Let me show you what I have tried that day in Taichung.

▸Shengqiao Taiwanese burger(盛橋刈包)
The first stop of my journey was Shengqiao Taiwanese burger(盛橋刈包). It’s only 3 minutes walk from the station. It is a class Taiwanese burger, almost with pork belly served in a steamed bun, but the burger here is quite different. There are some interesting favors like Taiwanese noodles, french fries with cheese and sakura shrimps and matcha ice cream. Yes, it is a dessert favor. The staff will put some ice cream with cotton candy inside the burger. What I bought this time was the favor of Taiwanese noodles. With the braised pork and special chili sauce, the burger is really yummy and it just cost for NT$70. Due to the hot weather, I went to the ChunfunHow(春芳號) to buy drink. I like their cup, it’s really elegant and beautiful. The staff told me there will be different kinds of cup in each season or festival. Besides the design of the cup, the drink is good,too.

▸Stinky Da Shu(臭大蔬)
This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff of what I lived this time. It’s a vegetarian restaurant. There are variety kinds of food that are really awesome like steamed stinky tofu, kimchi stinky tofu scones, tomato noodles and red vinegar dry noodles. The scone looks like pizza but it tastes more like Indian scones. I really want to try it but I was not hungry that time, I just gave a try on steamed stinky tofu. I really like this tofu. Fulled with the soup, it was not only smelled good but tasted delicious. I suggest to order a spicy one, the soup will be more tasty with spicy.

▸Oyster and pork intestine vermicelli(大腸蚵仔麵線)
This is a very popular food in Taiwan but I don’t think everyone can accept this kind of food, especially it’s about animals’ organ. I really like this gourmet. The aroma always makes me drool. Soft vermicelli with rich soup and juicy pork intestine, it tastes good with some vinegar, spicy and parsley. The restaurant I have tried also sold rice dumplings and rice tube pudding which are made of glutinous rice. By the way, there is also mushroom chicken soup sold which is my favorite. If you want to try some local food, here will be your good choice.

▸Duan Chun Zhen beef noodles(段純貞牛肉麵)
This is my last meal of my gourmet trip. When talking about Taiwanese gourmet, it must comes up with “beef noodles”. Whether it’s stewed or braised, beef noodles is always one of the representative food of Taiwan. This time I went to Duan Chun Zhen beef noodles, it’s a chain stores in Taiwan. There are variety sets and flavor here. If you are a choose barrier like me and are wondering about choosing the sets, just pick the one which has”推” on the menu. I ordered braised beef flank noodles. Kind of spicy, but the soup tasted good. beef noodles are always good with Chinese sauerkraut. By the way, the beef is really soft and juicy that you couldn’t stop eating it.

It’s really a good experience to have a one-day gourmet trip in Taichung. There are variety of delicacies in Taiwan, but I think the gourmet is the best! This trip did makes me learn more about Taiwanese food and also makes me love Taiwan more. If you want to have a gourmet feast, just follow me!
