Beautiful wetlands teeming with life made surreal by the sight of wind turbines on the horizon. Located on the south of the mouth of Dajia River, Gaomei Wetlands is a land mixed with both sand and soil textures and comes in 1,500 acres. It has complicated yet rich wetland ecology in Taiwan.

Due to diverse geographical features, the species of its ecology is quite abundant. As weather changes, large flocks of migrating birds would come here for either short or long stay, serving as the best spot for bird-watching. Despite of the ecology, the windmills are its feature, too. It’s the prime spot for a bird-and-sunset-watching combo in the greater Taichung area.
It’s good to comel here in summer if you like wetlands. Just take a local train to Qingshui (清水), then board bus 178 (NT$20, 30 minutes). There are only five buses a day, so consider taking a taxi (NT$280).
